Initially, you can see the trajectory down of the weight. At this point there is no ambivalence or discrepancy. You are not eating white sugar or flour or other trigger foods. You are tracking your foods and moving more. These are absolute in your life and there is no room for negotiation.

Have you become discouraged? “I will never lose the weight!” “I am doomed to be fat!” “I am ashamed!”
It is time to take another look at the importance of change, the readiness to change and the confidence to change. If you have tried and failed and tried and failed, then the importance of change is very high, but the readiness and confidence to change are usually very low.
I think of the brain as a light bulb. It lights up for weight loss and the pre-frontal cortex is burning brightly as we make one good decision after another. However, when we start to regain, the light bulb suddenly starts to dim and the parts of the brain that take over want reward, pleasure and desire for highly palatable and trigger foods.
Don’t give up! Obesity is a chronic, relapsing, multi-factorial, neuro-behavioral disease. It is not about willpower, laziness or other negative self-shaming statements. It is not about “calories in and calories out”. If only it were that easy. It requires hard work, dedication and clarity.
